How this human being (Beckham) can look at his reflection in a mirror everyday is beyond me. Personally I would be embarrassed to presume that I should be that great as to receive such an audacious amount of coinage. I would be ashamed to accept that kind of funds knowing how badly off a good chunk of the world is.

Did Beckham say “Give me 250 million over 5 years and I’m going to give up 200 million to charities.”- ? Nyet. Imagine if he did? I would have fallen off my chair and offered a tip-of-the-hat to him. Now that would have been something. And 250 mil for what? To play soccer?

Hello? Did the people who offered this deal completely lose their minds? Is Beckham that good? No.No one is that good. Even in the sacred sport of soccer, it’s a team sport, I know, I played soccer for over 10 years in an organized league. Fine, it wasn’t at a professional level, but it was no less still the game. And we all ran around the field just like his lord and master Mr. Beckham.

Chasing the ball from one end and back to the other. Soccer scores are low - why? Because the field is huge and the game changes drastically and unpredictably, more time is spent running than anything else. It resembles hockey in that it’s constantly moving - I know, played that as well. Also a team sport. Wayne Gretsky was only as good as his teammates.

Is this deal because of Beckham’s playing talents? Or is it a reflection of the professional sport salaries that so many pro-sports players seem to attain? Millions handed out each year to people who participate in a sport that they quite likely started out doing for the love of the game. How does a person go from 0 - 100 in 6.5 seconds in the money department over a sport they play? Sure, be paid accordingly, but where is the line drawn?

And then sports fans scratch their heads in wonder over the rising cost of the ticket to watch a hockey game. Good gravy - can you imagine the cost of a ticket to watch what’s-his-face run around a soccer field? Who do you think is going to pay his salary? As with movie, music and TV stars, where does reality kick in and common sense show up? How far up on the pedestals do we as human beings need to put others? These ‘stars’ are no different than the rest of us.

The actors are just people. They are not gods. They too, do not need to make 20 million a movie, 100 grand for a TV show, and in Beckhams case, at 250mil over 5 years, that’s 50mil a year, that’s approx. 4.2mil a month, that’s a tad over 1mil a week, that’s roughly 20 grand a day (5 day week), that’s approx. $2,600. an hour (8 hour day). Nothin’ wrong with that I guess!?!The entire entertainment system is paid for by us (the regular people of the planet), is this why we (society) feel we have a right to worship these people? Like Beckham? And the Divas of the world? And Mel Gibson? Okay, maybe not Mel. They are the worlds entertainment - but at what cost to us?

Society needs therapy.

Two hundred and fifty million dollars…how much is too much?
