Depending On Where You’re Standing
The American Elections are well under way – well, after what seemed to be an eternity of Primary’s and the like.
Here in the Great White North, our Prime Minister, who, in a state of being left out, and who is terribly worried about who will be running our neighbour’s country, decided to dissolve parliament and call an Election for October 14th, 2008.
This of course is after the Conservative government recently created a permanent Election Date (much like our American cousins), with the first official Election date set in October – 2009. Mr Harper is a year out of whack.
Much like Mr. Bush, our Mr. Harper does pretty much whatever he wants – without any real regard to standard political protocol. Or government protocol for that matter.
And so, while we up here watch with extreme interest the twisted tale of political intrigue with the Salt n’ Pepper team of Obama and Biden, and the Beauty and the Beast team of McCain and Palin, we, as well as our American buddies venture down the Election road almost hand in hand.
Oh what wonderfulness awaits both our countries? Who pray tell will adorn the Hats of Supreme Happiness and become the next leaders of North America? And what kind of major shitola are we all going to be dealing with? Le sigh...
Will we end up with an even deal – Conservatives here, and Republicans down yonder? Or Liberals here and Democrats down there? Or will it be the ultimate Odd Couple? Conservatives here and Democrats down below – or vice versa? Or – well up here with all these other Parties, anything could happen.
All I know is that we are all in for an adventure as both our countries re-arrange their respective political landscapes.
I wish us all the best.
